This is getting out of hand. And to answer your question, no, you cannot sleep in first year res because of the following reasons: 1. It is a hazard to have so many sleeping students in a building. On average each residence reports to have 10 fires per academic year, which usually occurs late night. If you are sleeping, you put yourself in danger because you can’t escape on time. 2. Sleep is for the weak. We’ve all heard of the triangle of social life, sleep, and studying. As a UBC student you are not weak, therefore you must not sleep. The bed is for decoration purposes only. 3. Sleeping too much could lead to a series of conditions, according to researchers. 4. Residence is derived from the word reside. “Reside: verb, to be situated, (of power or a right) belong by right to a person or body, (of a quality) be present or inherent in something.” Nowhere can we see the word links to sleeping.

brothers, sisters, and fellow commuters, let us pray for our blessed Mother Earth to provide us with bountiful amounts of fine, pure snow on this February night so that UBC will come to its senses and relieve many many poor souls from the prospect of a long, arduous, and treacherous pilgrimage through dire conditions to its' sacred campus grounds. Stepping down as Undergraduate Chair in Mathematics

I have had the pleasure of being the Undergraduate Chair in the Department of Mathematics since July 1, 2013. The time has come for me to step out of this role and my last day in it will be December 31, 2019. Prof. Albert Chau will take over as interim Undergraduate Chair for the period January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Prof. Chau is currently our Chief Advisor and is an excellent choice for this job.
